Avencia is partnered with a leading specialty insurer to recruit an Underwriter for their War and Terrorism Division, based in London.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing team within a globally recognised insurance group. The successful candidate will work closely with underwriters, divisional leadership, and actuarial colleagues to help deliver the underwriting strategy and keep key stakeholders informed of developments and progress.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborating with underwriters, senior underwriters, and divisional stakeholders to execute and refine underwriting strategy
• Exercising sound and responsible underwriting judgement
• Contributing proactively to team goals and strategy development
• Representing the company in broker and client meetings (with some travel as needed)
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with brokers
• Identifying new business opportunities and growth areas
• Applying consistent underwriting practices in line with authority, guidelines, and risk appetite
• Maintaining robust risk management controls, including aggregation and exposure guidelines

Skills & experience

• Demonstrable expertise in wholesale and retail War and Terrorism underwriting
• Proven ability to deliver strong underwriting results
• Broad knowledge across claims, actuarial, product development, compliance, and regulatory functions
• Experience working within complex, matrixed environments
• Strong communication and presentation skills; proactive and self-driven
• Track record of influencing internal stakeholders and delivering on objectives
• Strong numerical and analytical capabilities
• Established network across London and international markets
