Role: Deputy Head of Financial Control

Location: Hybrid Working

Duration: 9-month FTC

Money on offer: 70,387 - 80,465 (dependent on experience)

Experienced Deputy Head of Financial Control sought for a public sector organisation based in Central London, on a fixed-term basis for a period of minimum nine months to cover a permanent vacancy. There is also the potential for the right candidate to become a permanent employee, should you be interested.

You will support and deputise for the Head of Financial Control and be primarily responsible for the management of the financial accounts department, including those involved in capital accounting and treasury management.

The Deputy Head of Financial Control will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Head of Financial Control with the production of the annual accounts and report, monthly monitoring returns, and board reports
  • Ensuring the completeness of audit working papers
  • Responsibility for managing and ensuring the integrity of the general ledger and associated feeder systems
  • Preparing and presenting financial reports to external stakeholders and third parties, such as external auditors and internal auditors
  • Responsible for the on-going development and implementation of financial policies and procedures that impact the finance function and the Trust as a whole
  • Responsible for review of the balance sheet and ensuring the integrity of the general ledger through regular review and monitoring of the control accounts and financial transactions prepared by the finance team and shared service provider, Capita.
  • Mitigate the risk of financial loss and prevention of fraud through regular review of financial control processes
  • To oversee and ensure the timely completion of allocated month-end and year-end financial systems tasks in line with the Finance department timetables
  • To support the development of financial systems, engaging with users to deliver improvements in effectiveness, efficiency and to support the drive for innovation and best practice.

The ideal candidate for the Financial Accountant role should have:

  • An accountancy qualification
  • Public sector or private sector experience within treasury management, VAT, and balance sheet control
  • Experience in financial accounts at a senior level
  • Hunger to learn and adapt to the technical accounts teams' ways of working
  • Experience within technical accounting and transactions
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to hit the ground running
  • Ability to manage own workload, coping with changing priorities in a flexible and proactive way
  • Ability to communicate complex financial issues effectively, orally and in writing
  • Personal resilience
  • Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly in a complex environment to deliver the team's functions.
