We are currently working with a property investor / owner located in London who are keen to recruit someone with a couple of years experience of bookkeeping.

We are looking for those with some property finance experience.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Account Clerk/ Assistant Accountant to join our clients accounts team.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall financial management of the organisation.

This position will work closely with other team members to ensure timely processing of accounts payable and other financial transactions.

This is a full-time office-based role and the working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process journal entries, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting principles.
  • Reconcile bank statements and various general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports, including VAT report, profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Support the team with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoicing and payment allocation.
  • Support annual audit preparation and documentation.
  • Handle expense reimbursements.

Property Rental Management:

  • Process rental invoices and ensure timely collection of rents from tenants.
  • Maintain accurate tenant ledgers and reconcile rental income.
  • Prepare and issue statements of account to tenants.
  • Liaise with property managers and tenants regarding rental queries and discrepancies.

Service Charge Management:

  • Assist in the preparation of service charge budgets and reconciliations.
  • Process service charge invoices and allocate payments.
  • Maintain detailed records of service charge expenditures.
  • Prepare and distribute service charge statements to tenants.
  • Address tenant queries related to service charges and provide detailed breakdowns.
  • Ensure compliance with RICS Service Charge Residential Management Code (where applicable to commercial properties) and other relevant regulations.

System & Reporting:

  • Input and maintain financial data in accounting systems
  • Assist in data migration and system implementation

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in an accounting role, preferably within the property management sector (more than 2 years' experience preferred)
  • Experience with VAT reporting is essential
  • Experience with Sage accounting software or MRI Qube advantageous (training can be provided)
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively and time management skill
  • Self-motivated, and able to meet tight deadlines using own initiative
  • Relevant accounting qualification (e.g., AAT, part-qualified ACCA/CIMA) is a plus
