Senior Maintenance Technician Up to 43,000 per annum Central London

About us: We are a leading institution dedicated to providing exceptional services across our campus for all staff, students, and visitors. Our Estates and Facilities department is responsible for maintaining reactive, planned, and compliance services.

About the role: You will be responsible for undertaking planned preventative and reactive maintenance throughout designated buildings, ensuring adherence to operational, regulatory, and compliance requirements. You will provide technical and managerial support to Technicians within the team.

The Maintenance team, including the Senior Maintenance Technician, will have responsibility for the operational performance and safety of their buildings at all times. You will liaise with specialist sub-contractors and other dedicated engineers to maintain high-quality service delivery and maximum system uptime.

Accountabilities

  • Gain thorough knowledge of the operation and recovery procedures for all critical systems within the buildings.
  • Execute the planned preventative maintenance schedule, ensuring compliance with all relevant guidelines, statutory acts, and regulations. Regularly update and re-programme site-specific work schedules.
  • Support the team in allocating reactive maintenance tasks, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Assist in the professional development of team members.
  • Implement and manage Safe Systems of Work processes and oversee permit management.
  • Coordinate with, monitor, and control the activities of external contractors working on site.
  • Communicate with suppliers, place orders, and ensure adequate stock levels are maintained on site.
  • Help organize and complete water management tasks.
  • Conduct fault finding and troubleshooting across all buildings.
  • Responsibly handle emergencies and breakdowns.
  • Occasionally work at height, in confined spaces, and carry tools. The role involves both office-based work and tasks across various buildings.
  • Be available outside normal working hours occasionally to manage specific maintenance procedures and critical system contractors.
  • Adhere to and enforce all statutory, company, and client-specific environmental, health, safety, and quality standards.
  • Deliver high-quality customer-focused service and participate in required training.

About you: To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria:

  • City & Guilds or time-served apprenticeship in either M&E, OR an NVQ level 3 in either M&E.
  • Grades A-C in English and Maths.
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in MS Office.
  • Knowledge of Health Safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Managerial experience.
  • Extensive experience in maintaining and operating building services in complex buildings.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.

Desirable criteria:

  • First Aid certification.
  • Legionella awareness.
  • IOSH Working Safely certification.
