Purpose of the Role

The Technical Project Manager will lead infrastructure, cloud, and digital transformation projects, with a strong focus on Azure migration from planning and design through to implementation and post-go-live support.

This role blends technical understanding, structured project delivery, and agile adaptability. You will manage multiple concurrent projects, coordinating engineers, consultants, and vendors to deliver on time, on budget, and to a high technical standard.

Key Responsibilities1. Presales & Scoping
  • Collaborate with sales and technical teams to define project scopes, risks, timelines, and deliverables.

  • Review proposed solutions for technical feasibility and alignment with client objectives.

2. Project Planning
  • Develop structured, achievable project plans with clear milestones, deliverables, and risk strategies.

  • Coordinate with internal and client teams to align expectations and define success criteria.

3. Technical Project Delivery
  • Act as the primary client contact throughout project lifecycles.

  • Lead Azure migration and Microsoft 365 projects, ensuring accuracy and seamless delivery.

  • Manage engineers and third-party vendors to maintain project quality and integration.

  • Identify and mitigate risks, manage changes, and allocate resources effectively.

  • Apply agile principles to adapt to evolving requirements while maintaining control and efficiency.

  • Provide technical oversight to ensure successful delivery-not just administrative management.

4. Continuous Improvement & PMO Contribution
  • Contribute to refining internal delivery processes, templates, and methodologies.

  • Drive efficiency and consistency through automation, lean processes, and agile project management.

Skills and Experience
  • 5+ years' experience managing infrastructure and cloud projects.

  • Proven track record in Azure migration (on-prem to Azure or hybrid).

  • Experience with Microsoft 365, infrastructure refreshes, and cloud transformation.

  • Strong technical understanding of infrastructure, networking, and cloud technologies.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and time management skills.

  • Certification in PRINCE2, PMI, or Agile (or equivalent).

  • Microsoft/Azure certifications desirable.

  • Experience in an MSP or consultancy environment.

  • Exposure to automation or SaaS implementation projects.

Background in naval combat systems engineering or systems integration. Good understanding of system architectures, interfaces, and requirements management. Familiarity with the V-model or other structured systems engineering methodologies. Strong communication skills, comfortable engaging with suppliers and stakeholders. Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).Desirable Experience with small-ship combat systems or export naval programmes. Familiarity with OCEA or similar Excel-based tools. Understanding of DEF STANs or MoD engineering standards. Exposure to organisations such as Frazer-Nash, Thales, or BAE Systems. French language skills (helpful but not essential).Additional Information Initial training: up to 2 weeks in France (can be staggered). Travel: infrequent-approximately once every six months to export customers (South East Asia, Africa, South America, Eastern Europe etc). Working hours: 9-5 with flexibility. Hybrid working: 1-2 days per week from home. Location: Southampton, with occasional travel to the Isle of Wight.
