Shift Technician
Summary:
To ensure that all environmental and building conditions are consistently maintained across critical systems. The Shift Maintenance Technician will be responsible for delivering planned and reactive maintenance, overseeing sub-contractor activity, and ensuring safe and efficient operation of all mechanical and electrical plant. The role requires strong fault-finding capabilities and familiarity with systems such as HVAC, UPS, generators, and LV infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out routine PPM on all mechanical and electrical plant in line with site schedules and asset lists.
- Respond to reactive maintenance tasks, including environmental and fabric-related issues, ensuring timely resolution.
- Monitor and maintain BMS-controlled systems to ensure optimal building conditions.
- Supervise and coordinate sub-contractor activities, ensuring compliance with site safety and operational standards.
- Operate and manage the Permit to Work system in accordance with BGIS and client procedures.
- Diagnose and resolve plant faults and defects to maintain serviceable condition.
- Ensure availability of spares and materials for maintenance and reactive works; provide parts lists and time estimates.
- Complete and submit all relevant documentation for reactive and breakdown works; update CAFM systems (e.g. Maximo).
- Prepare and follow Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all tasks.
- Maintain a safe and professional working environment, including wearing appropriate PPE and uniform.
- Ensure plant rooms are secure, clean, and well-maintained.
- Produce and maintain shift reports to the required standard.
- Support the team in producing near miss reports, dynamic risk assessments, and escalating non-compliance.
- Monitor and ensure correct operation of the LOTO system.
- Maintain awareness of and compliance with contractual KPIs and SLAs.
- Perform any other duties as directed by the site management team.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- NVQ / C&G Level 3 qualified in either Mechanical or Electrical
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building systems.
- Proficient in fault-finding across HVAC, UPS, generators, and LV systems.
- Experience using BMS systems and interpreting graphical/alarm data.
- Familiarity with CAFM platforms (e.g. Maximo).
- Good working knowledge of Health & Safety procedures, including permit-to-work and LOTO.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a shift team.
- Physically fit and capable of working in plant environments and at heights.
